WHO DARES WINS WORKS FOR FALDO

SAS fan Nick Faldo is ready to take his team into the battle for Ryder Cup glory.

Faldo captains Europe in their defence of the trophy against the United States at Valhalla next week.

And although there may be 12 men on his team for the three-day showdown in Kentucky, it all boils down to a lot less than that.

"It's actually a team of two, not a team of 12. It's two guys who go out. You take on their two," he told GQ Sport.

"Sure it's great to have the support of those other 10 guys, and you're doing it for them, but for those few hours and with every shot it's two on two. In the SAS, two men are deemed an army. I love that.

"That makes sense, they look after each other and they can do everything. I'm an SAS fan, I'll stick up for them every day against those Green Berets!"

Although memories of the spicy scenes at Kiawah Island in 1991 and Brookline in 1999 are unlikely to be repeated next week, Faldo knows it will be no place for the faint-hearted.

"Every American golfer wants to be in that team. They want to be in the team that did something about their recent run. So that's going to make it seriously feisty.
