World number two Phil Mickelson will be teeing off in south-east Asia once again this November after being confirmed as one of the marquee names for the Barclays Singapore Open on Tuesday.
The 38-year-old had a disappointing outing in his first appearance at the event in 2007 but organisers of the US 5million dollars event have confirmed the American will be returning along with world number Ernie Els, two-time winner Adam Scott, Korean star Choi Kyung-ju and Northern Ireland's Darren Clarke.
Tournament organisers could not confirm whether defending champion Angel Cabrera of Argentina and last year's runner-up Vijay Singh would be taking part in Asia's richest national golf open although they revealed the full field has yet to be confirmed.
"We are confirming the participation of the five returning players today but we are planning to announce more names later," said Bob Tan, the chairman of the tournament's steering committee.
"The tournament has generated a lot of interest and there has been interest from other star players but we will only be confirming the full list of players later."
The Asian Tour event will take place from November 13 to 16 at the Sentosa Golf Club's Serapong Course, a layout which Asian Tour executive chairman Kyi Hla Han feels will offer a formidable challenge to the players.
"The course is going to be prepared so that it takes a lot of finesse and touch and some good shot making and ball striking to do well," he said.
"It's going to be really good to see the top players like Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els and Adam Scott playing in these conditions in Asia and I think we're going to see a lot of good golf."
