MONSTER PUTT SEALS TITLE FOR SCOTT

MONSTER PUTT SEALS TITLE FOR SCOTT

Adam Scott sank a birdie from nearly 50 feet to beat Ryan Moore in a play-off at the EDS Byron Nelson Championship.

After missing several much shorter putts during the final round, Scott found his range to see off Moore at the third extra hole at the Four Seasons TPC.

Scott, who frittered away a three-shot lead during the final round, had to birdie the final hole of regulation play just to force extra holes with the fast-finishing Moore.

But the Australian sank a nine-footer to tie with the American on a seven-under-par 273, four strokes clear of Bart Bryant.

Scott had good chances to win at the first two extra holes, missing birdie putts from 16 and 12 feet, before ending it at the next, the par-four 18th.

"I got away with one today," Scott said after clinching his sixth official PGA Tour victory, his 14th worldwide.

"I dug it out of nowhere and obviously found my range. I hit it too close the other holes."

Moore, the 2004 United States amateur champion, said: "You expect a guy like that to make a putt in that situation.

"It didn't surprise me at all."

Moore came from three shots behind, shooting a closing 68 to Scott's 71 in strong northerly winds.
