ROSE ON THE UP

ROSE ON THE UP

Justin Rose moves up from fifth to second in the European Ryder Cup standings after coming joint runner-up at the Memorial tournament in America.

After failing to make the halfway cut in his previous four events Rose finished two strokes behind American Kenny Perry. Luke Donald was tied for sixth.

The top 10 who would earn places in Nick Faldo's team as things stand are Lee Westwood, Rose, Henrik Stenson, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Sergio Garcia, Robert Karlsson, Oliver Wilson, Nick Dougherty, Martin Kaymer and Graeme McDowell.

As things stand, Open champion Padraig Harrington and Donald would be clear favourites for Nick Faldo's two wild cards.

Latest leading places in the European Ryder Cup tables after the Wales Open (top five on world list on August 31 qualify, plus next five on European list. Captain Nick Faldo then adds two wild cards):
