Royal Liverpool to stage 2014 British Open

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland (AP) — Royal Liverpool will host the 2014 British Open, the 12th time it will stage golf's oldest major.

Tiger Woods won the tournament the last time it was played on the links course at Hoylake on the northwest English coast in 2006, becoming the first back-to-back winner since Tom Watson in 1983.

The 2006 tournament attracted a record total crowd of 230,000.

The Old Course at St. Andrews hosts this year's championship July 15-18 and that is followed by Royal St. George's in 2011, Royal Lytham & St. Annes in 2012 and Muirfield in 2013.
